There was no time for pouting in kindergarten...
Another adventured packed week in kindergarten!
We started off working with a new math tool... tangrams!
The kids LOVED building and creating with this new tool.
After reading this hilarious book about a dog who thought she was a reindeer,
the kids got to work feeding our reindeer.
We also gave Rudolph his nose back.
We also went outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and play a Rudolph board game.
They were working on reviewing their vowel sounds.
We also had a very special afternoon activity.
What were we up to???
We can't wait to show you!
Rudolph was back in the afternoon to help us with a number game.
The kids also had a chance to paint the ornaments they made.
We were building more memories on Tuesday...
The kids had a chance to work with some more shapes in this fun game.
They had to spin the wheel to see what shape they had to use to add onto their partner's shape.
Eventually they came up with a design or a picture!
They did such a great job of working together.
Another "old lady" book popped up in our classroom. This time she swallowed a bell!
The kids worked hard to make shapes using bells and pipe cleaners.
They were also looking for a bell hiding under a word cup.
One friend hid bells under everyone's cup.
They had to find the hidden bell and read and write the word it was hiding under.
They also had a blast x-raying the old lady to see what she swallowed.
First they had some mixed up letters that they had to put in order.
Then they turned on the "x-ray" machine to see what she swallowed.
They lifted the sheet to see if they were correct.
They LOVED this reading activity.
Before we headed off to music class, the kids enjoyed some time to build and create on Wednesday.
The kids are doing a great job learning how to play bells.
When we got back to the classroom it was time for some POLAR EXPRESS adventures!
At one of our reading stations they enjoyed making hot cocoa words.
They had to be careful not to make a nonsense word!
Some letter train tracks were scattered about on the carpet.
The kids had to bring the right letters back to their partner.
The partner then put the letters together to make a word.
They both got a chance to drive the train over the word.
This game was a ticket to ride game.
Each ticket had a heart word on it.
They had to carefully carry the ticket to the correct heart word.
These kids were on the READING EXPRESS!
In the afternoon, Ms. Steinbacher was back.
She brought bells to help the kids learn their memory verse!
The kids learned to play "For unto us a child is born. To us a son is given"!
The kids also had a chance to build their own train tracks.
They did such a great job of working together!
Thursday we headed over to church to celebrate the second week of Advent.
Ms. Steinbacher lead a wonderful chapel on how we prepare. We had to guess what she was preparing for. She prepared to back.
She prepared to go on a trip. Then she talked about how God had preparing for Christmas since since Adam and Eve disobeyed God. She reminded us Advent is a time to prepare our hearts for Christmas.
After chapel we read this amazing book by our illustrator of the month Lois Ehlert. She uses all kinds of shapes to make her pictures. SOOOOO....
The kids got to work to use all kinds of shapes to create their own mole hills.
They did a great job once again of compromising and working together!
A stocking showed up at one of our reading stations.
The kids had to pull out a letter from the stocking and write it down.
The challenge was to empty the stocking before it was time to rotate!
This group had to deliver the presents to the correct vowel stocking.
They had to look at the picture and figure out what vowel sound was hiding in the word.
Mrs. Donner was back with a fun tool called a sphere-o!
The kids used an ipad to control the sphere-o.
They had to drive it all the way down to a cone where a word was hiding.
Once they "hit" a word,
they had to read it and put it in the correct stocking.
The kids LOVED this and asked if they could get one for Christmas!
After reading this HILARIOUS book,
the kids got to work using all kinds of shapes to build a sleigh for pigeon to drive!
I just love their imaginations!
This one even had a place to steer and jet packs!
Mrs. Jennings kept the kids moving on Friday!
They had a great time playing "POOR POOR PUPPY".
The Grinch showed up in our classroom,
but he couldn't steal our fun!
The Grinch stole the presents, so we had to match them back up.
The top of the present had the word.
The bottom part had the picture.
Once they matched it up, they had to take "inventory" of the presents they found.
The kids were also on the hunt for heart words.
They used special heart spy glasses to find the words.
The Grinch also stole our ornaments.
He even mixed up the words on them!
If the kids got a nonsense word,
they had to switch one letter to make a real word.
We were also busy making Grinch puzzles.
The kids had to match the letter to the correct picture.
To end the day the kids worked together to build WHOVILLE.
They are SO creative.
They even built in spots to put the presents.
We were sad to see our exciting week end...
But no worries... our Christmas adventures aren't quite done!
We can't wait to celebrate the REAL meaning of Christmas next week.
For to us a child is born. To us a son is given.
