WOW! This stacked up to be another exciting week!
The kids had a BLAST celebrating World Stacking Cup Day!
One boy said, "It was the best gym class ever!".
They even got to use GIANT stacking cups!
Mrs. Jennings helped them create the tallest tower ever.
What a fun way to start the day!
Back in the classroom we weren't trying to knock down towers, we were trying to knock down walls! The had a great time helping me tell the story of the wall of Jericho this week!

One reading station was busy matching rhyming acorns.

We took this sneaky squirrel game and added a kindergarten twist to it!
The kids used the squirrel to pick up an acorn.
But there was a word hiding on the acorn!
The kids had to read the acorn
and match it to the right "vowel log".
In the hallway the little squirrels were playing beat the clock!
They had to find all of the matching acorns before the time ran out.
We were working with shapes in the afternoon.
The kids used different solid shapes to create a collage.
Then we took turns trying to balance some "fall items" with acorns.
More adventures popped up on Tuesday.
the kids got to work looking for acorns!
First they had to match the squirrel to the right acorn.
Then they peeked "underground" to find a special acorn that had a word hidden on it.
They had to take inventory of their acorns by finding it on their list.
The last step was to highlight the word!
They LOVED this acorn hunting game!
Inside, we were hard at work matching tops and bottoms of acorns.
If they had the right letter to match the bottom acorn's picture, they got to keep it.
The kids got to work building their own acorn carrier and acorn protector.
They discovered working together they could create some amazing designs!
These boys hid their acorns so well, I couldn't even find them!
The kids were also busy cutting up their shape collage artwork from Monday,
and turning it into an acorn!
The kids also came up with this secret acorn game.
After rolling the dice,
They found that number acorn and covered it up.
Then they wrote the number on their special paper.
The kids came up with the idea to call their number the secret password into the "acorn palace"!
I LOVE their imaginations!
Wednesday it was time for another FUN music class!
Mrs. Crumrine taught them a song about a boy who couldn't stay awake.
They LOVED pretending to fall asleep! :)
Mrs. Mudd led our chapel this week.
She reminded us to be thankful for EVERYTHING. Even dirty old shoe laces!
The Sneaky Squirrel game was back! This time the kids were playing it all by themselves. Some kids were excited to tell me they have this game at home! You can turn it into a "reading game" by adding cvc words, heart words, etc. to add a new twist to it!
The kids also went on an acorn hunt in the classroom.
They had to match the uppercase letter squirrel to the correct lowercase letter acorn.
Then they wrote the letter on their paper.
In the afternoon, the kids were busy making a shape pattern.
We will see these headbands later this coming week!
Ms. Steinbacher was back to help us with our memory verse.
The kids used the stacking cups to create their memory verse.
Each cup had a word from their memory verse on it.
When they were done they had built a giant memory verse wall!
Then it was time to march around their city as they said their memory verse.
We have SO much fun with Ms. Steinbacher's fun games!
More acorn balancing popped up.
This time they were seeing which acorn was the heaviest.
The kids also worked on a matching memory game.
They had to remember where the squirrels were hiding.
Our week was done quite yet...
Thursday we were working hard to figure out our shapes. We took turns digging into my mystery bag.
The kids had to guess what shape they were holding in the bag.
Once they guessed, they pulled it out to see if they were right!
Back at their tables, they were playing the same game.
This time a partner handed them a mystery shape.
They kept their eyes closed and tried to figure out what shape they were holding.
Some of the shapes were solid shapes.
Some of them were flat shapes.
Even Mrs. Drury had a chance to play this tricky game.
The kids LOVED playing this mystery game!
The kids also enjoyed playing this word building game.
First they had to read the word on the block.
Then they added it to their team tower.
They could either take a block or a stacking cup.
They were very strategic about where they put their blocks!
They had such great teamwork!
In the afternoon, the kids were busy using blocks to stamp shapes.
The shapes they stamped helped create their memory verse art!
Friday the kids were SO excited to to parachute in gym class!!!
They couldn't contain their smiles and giggles!
They even made an igloo!
Running under the parachute was a GREAT way to start off the morning.
Our morning of adventures was just beginning...
We marched down the hallway the city of Jericho.
We couldn't believe what we saw ahead of us!
A giant wall stood before us.
SOOOO... we marched!
And we marched!
AND we marched around that city 7 times!
On the 7th time around, we blew our trumpets and yelled.
With the help of some wonderful 4th graders, the walls came tumbling down!!!
The kids were SO surprised when the walls came down and a bunch of 4th grades popped out!
It will be a surprise they will never forget!
In the classroom we were busy using special magnet wands to stretch out our cvc (consonant vowel consonant) words.
First we put some special tokens on each letter as we said the sound.
The we took the magic wand
and tapped each sound.
Then it was time to ZAP the word!
The kids LOVED reading the words like this!
The last step was to find the matching turkey picture.
The kids also went on a turkey hunt.
They were looking for all of their heart words that were hiding in the classroom.
We ended our day with another great Friday reader!
The kids were so mesmerized by her story, you could hear a pin drop in the room!
They LOVED the story of Charlie Brown's Christmas!
It was the best way to end our week. :)
I can't wait to see what AMAZING memories we make next week!
