Getting our Ducks in a Row

Nothing measures up to the great week we had!

In math we were busy learning how to measure.

We started off using our crayons to measure our shoes!

Then we tried out our linking cubes.
Bird is the word in this nest building word game.

The kids had to grab a stick and read the word to their friends.

Next they had to build a nest stick by stick.

They had to be very careful not to let the sticks fall.
Once the nest was built...
they added the egg.
Then it was time to start taking the sticks back out!

The suspense was too much too take!

One team was so careful they were down to their last stick!
Yes!  The kids LOVED this game!

After reading one of my favorite P.D. Eastman books,
the kids got to work building their own nest.
They had to use different "beaks" to carry the items back to the nest.

They could use all different kinds of items to build the nest.
Then they had to place the egg on top to see if it would hold.

They build some pretty amazing nests!

They were also busy making "birds" out of paper.

Then they got a chance to watch them fly!

They threw their birds three times

and looked to which time it landed the farthest.

We were trying to get all of our ducks in a row on Tuesday.
We started off math by measuring the ducks.
The kids estimated how tall the duck would be before measuring it.

For one of our reading stations we played "Don't Get Wet!"

First one player rolled two dice.
The next friend found the duck that matched that number.

Another friend found the number card that matched the duck and read the word under it.

If it was the word "wet",

They got sprayed!

I think Mrs. Cowgill liked this game as much as the kids did!  :)

We were also busy making sentences on the pond.

They had to work together to find the right ducks to go on the pond.

Our "beaks" were back picking up baby birds.

The kids had to carry the lowercase alphabet birds

safely back to their  mamma capital letter  birds.

In the afternoon we were busy having duck races!
The kids rolled the dice
to see how many magnatiles to take from Donald Duck.

They were trying to see which Donald would get to the bottom first.

The kids had SO much fun with this game!

We also had a very special art project to complete our day.

We started off Wednesday with a special chapel service!

Jennie Williamson led our chapel service, which was more like a concert!

She had the kids up on their feet

dancing

and singing!

And of course LOTS of smiling!

Back in the classroom we were busy making word flowers.
If you had a petal with the picture that matched your digraph,
you got to keep it!
In this game the kids were spinning petals to make new words.

The kids also enjoyed making flowers with pattern blocks.
Once they made a flower,

they had to show what four things a flower needs to grow.  Can you find the sun, rain, soil and air?
Brody's dad surprised the class by coming to read!

He read a fun Dr. Seuss book.

What a special surprise!

We were hard at work with another dice game.
The kids rolled twice
and stacked up that many blocks.

Then they measured how tall their tower was.

We ended the day with a LOLLIPOP concert from Mrs. Holtz and the strings.
This was the perfect mini concert and sneak peek performance for us.

We learned about the different instruments
and heard some familiar tunes.
Some kids even got to be guest conductors.

It was a jam packed day of excitement!

We started off Thursday with a  surprise MASKED READER!

"Is your favorite color pink?"

"Are you a girl?"

The kids were down to their last bonus guess
before one student finally said...
MRS. HOLTZ!

Mrs. Holtz read a WONDERFUL book about how great moms are!

It was an AWESOME way to start our day!
Mrs. Donner came had the kids making a special boat.
The kids had to design a boat that would help a duck not sink!

The kids turned their thinking caps on for this activity!
Once their boat was built...
They tested it out to see if their boat would save the duck.

YAY!  The kids loved this project!
In this game, the kids were trying to steal the ducks' nest.

They used their "beak" to take the word sticks.
They carried the words back and read them to their friends.

The kids also enjoyed using a "ruler" to measure things with their partner.

They were busy comparing, using the words "longest" and "shortest".

Mrs. Martin taught us about prayer earlier in the year.  She was back to teach us a little Spanish.

Quinn "opened" the pretend door and let her in!

Mrs. Martin read a book about a mamma duck and her missing ducklings. The kids helped her count in Spanish, and Brody helped her find the ducks.

Friday's rainy morning meant time for puzzles!

We were also helping these little ducklings get in the right order.

If we got them in the right order, it made a sentence.

The next step...
was finding the perfect punctuation mark to end the sentence.

These kids can't be tricked!
They are becoming quite the readers!

They also enjoyed smashing the "b's"! They had to be careful not to hit any "d's" or "p's".

Next up was practicing time!

We learned how to tell time to the hour.

What time is it Miss....

The kids had to match the "teacher's" time.

They loved hearing their last name and being the teacher!

We ended our day with a hilarious book from our Friday Reader!

The kids LOVED the book and were excited to end the day with our Friday Reader.

What a special surprise to end our busy week!

Thanks for stopping by... We will see you next week!
