Have a Ball!

Look what we were up to this week...

It was the perfect day to celebrate Easter!

We brought our instruments outside...

and our dancing shoes

as we joined the preschoolers to celebrate that JESUS IS ALIVE!
THE ROCK WAS ROLLED AWAY! HOORAY FOR EASTER DAY!
Then it was time for an easter egg hunt!

The kids each found a special egg that had a cross inside.
It was the perfect way to start our week!
Inside our classroom we were launching rockets to get ready for the solar eclipse.

Whatever letter the rocket landed closest to, the kids had to write that letter down.

We were also busy playing star search.

If you got the moon, you got an extra card.

Be careful!  If you got a sun, the game was over!

In math the rockets were back to help us with our teen numbers!

Whatever number the rocket landed closest to, we had to add it to our 10 "moon rocks".

The kids couldn't believe how far the rockets flew!

Then one brave astronaut had to walk to the moon and hold their breath

in order to find the correct teen number to match.

Finally the time had come to take a peek at our sun.

Each group was able to view the sun two different times to compare it.

They were surprised at how the temperature changed!

I hope it is a day they will never forget!

Back in the classroom, we were doing activities as we watched the live stream video of Cape Girardeau. The kids were SO excited to see it on the "big screen".

This book is HILARIOUS!  The kid LOVED it!  After reading it,

we played a math game where the kids went looking for the missing butterflies.

We added the butterflies to our 10 cocoons to make a teen number.

The kids also enjoyed making symmetrical butterflies with pattern blocks.

For our reading stations, the kids were busy matching sight word butterflies to the correct flowers.

This mixed up caterpillars needed to be fixed.

When we got it all organized,
it made a sentence!

We ended our day by making some exciting textured painting.

The kids loved painting with balloons, bottles, tooth brushes, and forks!

Wednesday was filled with more adventures!

We started off in the gym using the parachute to tell the Easter story!
First we pretended we were the women who walked slowly to the tomb.

Then we practiced making the tomb with the parachute.

The kids couldn't believe how big the tomb was!

Of course we had to go inside the tomb to see if Jesus was inside.

The kids LOVED this part!

Next we had to run back to tell the disciples.  Then we RAN back to the tomb to see if the story was true!

This time we didn't just peek inside the tomb,

"Peter and John" ran inside as we shouted...
"He is risen indeed!  ALLELUIA!"

The kids absolutely LOVED telling the Easter story this way!

We headed to chapel and celebrated some baptismal birthdays.
After reading the classic story of the of hungry caterpillar, we talked about the stages of a butterfly.

These pretend cocoons not only had sight words on them, they had some butterfly words hiding in them too.

They had to guess which cocoon the butterfly was hiding in!

Some of those butterflies were tricky to find!
Then they read and wrote down whatever word was hiding on their butterfly.
The kids worked together to make this special sight word caterpillar.
This group was excited they worked so hard they completed the challenge 5 times!
The kids also were surprised by their symmetrical butterflies.  They painted one side and folded it.  They opened it up to reveal their butterfly masterpiece!

Miss Steinbacher was back to help us with our tricky memory verse!

The kids did great with this!  Make sure you have them sing it for you!  :)

Thursday we were having a ball!
Elephant and Piggie were back to help us have a ball!

Then we got to work!  The kids crumpled up some sight words

and tossed them into the basketball bucket.

The other friends rebounded and cheered for them.

Mrs. Donner joined us for a fun marble STEM activity.

The kids each used cardboard, paper towel tubes, and LOTS of tape

to create their own marble maze.

Sometimes is worked; sometimes it didn't.

Sometimes they had to fix it and try again.  Whatever the outcome, they all had a GREAT time doing this!

After practicing their lowercase b's, the kids ventured out to the hallway.

Each team pulled out a basketball that had a word on it.  Then they practiced stretching the word out by passing the ball to each for each sound they heard.

They passed the ball from side to side or they could go over each others' heads!
Who knew spelling could be so fun!

We used these special ping pong balls, to help us hear beginning and ending sounds.

I called out a word.  If they had ping pong ball letter that matched any sound in my word, they held it up.

For math we were tossing different sized ball into a bucket.

They loved cheering their friends on!

However many balls we got in, we added that to our number bond, to create a teen number.

YAY!  Another fun way to practice adding teens!

In the afternoon, we were busy doing some teen number bowling!

The kids wrote down the teen numbers that were on the pins they knocked down.

Our week was not complete without BASEBALL DAY!
It was a great day for a ballgame!

These teammates showed up shaking hands

and giving high fives to start off our day!

Some sluggers brought their game faces!
During math we were pulling numbers out of the baseball bucket.

That number was how many runs we added to ten to create a number bond.

The kid had a blast running around the bases in our classroom.

These mixed up baseballs were no match for us!

The kids were great teammates
and put them together to make a sentence.
They also had some bats they had to sort.
Watch out for the nonsense words!  They were STRIKES!

This baseball game had the kids reading words
and kept them  on their toes.

They had to be careful not to grab a STRIKE!
The kids were so excited to get a HOMERUN!
More baseball adventures in the afternoon!
The kids had fun building baseball stadiums, having a baseball snack, and looking at the numbers on baseball cards.

The best part was going outside
 for a little batting practice!

We had some great fielders too!

We have some future baseball players in the group!

It was a great baseball day
and an AMAZING week!
