We were all stacked up to have another wonderful week!
We started off the week talking about Presidents Day.
We used our "Lincoln Logs"
to build houses.
These were special word houses!
The kids read the words
and then stacked them up to build a house.
The kids also had a blast playing a HEADS and TAILS game.
They figured out how to flip the coin.
Then made tally marks under heads and tails
to see who would win.
It took teamwork to build these "white houses".
The kids had to keep adding to their partner's blocks to equal 10.
It is amazing what they can create with 10 blocks!
Some kids even had time to add up more than 10.
We also said "good-bye" to ALLELUIA this week.
We took our alleluias over to church with us.
Then we sealed them up in a special box.
Pastor Rouland led our chapel service. He explained to us the meaning of Lent and Ash Wednesday.
Each child had the opportunity to get ashes on their heads
or on their hands
as a special reminder of Jesus dying for our sins.
We were also busy talking about healthy teeth this week.
We played a fun game of tooth fairy tag in the gym!
The tooth fairies were trying to tag the dirty teeth with their magic wands.
If you got tagged,
you had to go in the middle of the circle and brush your teeth!
In the classroom we were practicing our writing with alphabet teeth.
After writing the letter with a tooth AND a pencil,
the kids cleaned the clay off with a tooth brush.
The kids also enjoyed playing a little tooth fairy word game.
One friend picked out three tooth letters.
Another friend put the letters together to make a word.
Then the tooth fairy hid the letters under the pillow.
No peeking! :)
The tooth fairy helper made sure to deliver some money.
Some friends weren't too happy when the tooth fairy wasn't very generous!
We also used some toothbrushes to help us paint our memory verses!
The kids created a border around the outside of their paper.
They had to have self control not to brush their teeth with the toothbrushes! :)
These little smiles helped us practice adding.
Each kindergartner put white linking cubes (a.k.a. teeth) on the bottom of the smile.
Then the kids added the teeth up with the empty spaces.
It gave us something to smile about!
After reading the book Stone Soup
we played a little magic chef game to help us with our adding.
The kids had to guess how much food was left in the bowl to add up to 10.
2+___ =10
The kids also had fun scooping out the alphabet letters.
Once they scooped it out they wrote down the letters that were in their bowl.
We also practiced reading and writing words on the "invisible" spoons!
In this little chef game, the kids pulled out a "recipe".
The next friend wrote down the recipe.
Then they found the letter stones that made that word and checked to see which rock was heaviest.
We practiced more adding with these bowls.
One friend divided up the "alphabet soup".
The next friend added up the food.
The kids LOVED building and creating with bowls, spoons, pots, and cups!
Everybody had their own unique creations.
This group created a school!
The kids have been LOVING using the marble works in the morning!
They have really worked hard to create some amazing pipelines.
We read another Stone Soup book and compared the two books.
Then we used our fine motor skills to play
STACKABLE alphabet soup.
They rolled the dice and used the tweezers to stack the dice on the right letter.
Then they wrote down the letter they stacked.
These magic golden spoons helped us create words!
We wrote down the word we created only if it was a real word.
Then we got to work making our very own stone soup!
We picked out some really great stones.
Then we added some water to soak the stones.
Next every child added some vegetables.
We added potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, and broccoli.
We stirred it up and let it cook until the afternoon.
After reading this hilarious book called Soup Opera,
it was finally time to eat our soup!
Some kids were a little nervous to try it.
Everybody was very brave and gave it a little try.
We got the thumbs up from a lot of the kids!
It was a SOUPER day!
We ended our day with another FANTASTIC Friday reader!
We love ending our week with such special visitors.
Lots of SMILES headed our way next week...
