Take a peek into our busy week!
We were working on the letter Tt this week.
These kids had SO much fun playing TWISTER!
We put a little twist to the game.
Not only did they have to find the right color
they had to find the right letter too!
We have some very flexible children in our class!
And boy were the smiles and giggles popping out during this game!
We also started our week off talking about trees.
The kids did an amazing job of making trees!
We used some old tubes and paper towel rolls for the stems.
Next they had wooden sticks for the branches.
Next it was a balancing act to get the letters to stay on the "branches".
Some kids worked together to design the trees.
They couldn't believe how tricky it was to balance the letters sometimes.
Sometimes they figured out a way to keep it nice and steady.
Other times it tipped over
and went KABOOM!
We also played an apple game to help us practice more and less.
We threw the apples up in the air.
Then we had to sort to see what we had more of... yellow or red apples.
We designed some more apple trees out of cups and pom poms.
After stacking up their "trees"
They added yellow
green and red pom poms.
They had to count to see what color they had the most of.
They even worked together to created forests!
But sometimes the trees fell down.
That's okay! It sure was fun building them!
The kids also did a great job of painting an apple tree.
To practice writing our letters
the kids pulled out an apple with a letter on it.
Then they made that letter using play doh.
The kids also had fun playing tic tac toe.
They used capital T and lowercase t instead of x's and o's.
the kids played a dice game about more and less.
They rolled the dice to see how many "apples" the dog and the lion from the story would get.
After stacking the "apples' on top of of the cups,
We had to decide who had more apples.
They also rolled the dice and practiced stacking lids (apples).
Some were able to roll two dice and stack up 12 apples!
Some had some wobbly apples
that kept falling over!
The kids LOVED this game! Save those applesauce lids...you just never know what fun games you can use them for!
We also worked on designing apples trees with sticks!
It took a little bit to figure out how to get the sticks to be able to stand.
Then we added buttons that we pretended were apples.
Some enjoyed working together to make this challenge a little easier.
They asked if they could do this activity again!
Apple tossing in gym class was another fun activity!
The kids pretended the bean bags were apples.
They were so excited when they got the apple into the basket!
Next up was our A-Z hike.
We stopped to see Mrs. Coad after music class. She showed us something that started with C... COFFEE!
She also had an I word for us... instruments!
We found Pastor Fieberkorn upstairs in the church.
He showed us some of his football moves
and a football for the letter F.
Mrs. Adams came by for our hike too!
She showed us her juggling skills!
She also had an apple for the letter A.
Mr. Wood had a water bottle for the letter W.
Mr. Thoelke is our church organist.
He showed us a teabag for the letter T.
We headed over to see the cooks.
They had lots to show us... Miss Carol had a camera.
Mrs. Boettcher was b-b-b-busy trying to get lunch together.
But she stopped and showed the kids some bread for the letter B.
Miss Mel showed us some milk for the letter M.
Mrs. Ragar showed us ranch for the letter R.
We took our hike outside
where we found Mrs. Holtz!
She gave each kid a heart for the letter H.
Next we stopped by to see our sweet nurse Miss Connie.
The kids didn't know she had a "secret" door!
She showed us a cup
for the letter C.
Our hike was over but...
we will keep searching for different letters and friendly people at Zion to finish our alphabet adventure.
we went outside looking for letters hiding on our playground.
We found the letter o.
We found a B.
The shape of the letter V was hiding in the goal post!
We found an E on the sidewalk.
Each kid was in charge of trying to find a certain letter. Can you guess this letter?
Look we found the letter t!
Sometimes we had to make the letter using things found in nature.
Sometimes it just popped right out at us!
Here is the letter K.
This branch looks like the letter Y.
This stump reminded us of a Q shape.
Do you see the letter R?
Look carefully and you can find the letter G!
If you find a letter in nature at your house, take a picture and send it my way!
Mrs. Helmkamp led our chapel this week!
She talked about flowers and how they need certain things to grow.
She said our faith is the same way. We need to read God's word to help "water" our faith.
This year we are partnering with Greg Holz to support his mission, Crossing Cambodia. Crossing Cambodia provides meals twice a day, 5 days a week, for 30 students in Greg's village. Our chapel offerings will purchase meals for the year. What a great way to share the love of Jesus to the children in Cambodia! Click the link below to watch a short video about this wonderful mission.
We were so blessed to have Mr. Holz come and talk with us.
He told us that just $1.00 will feed a child for a whole day! So far our school has raised over $2000! Keep it up!
Our apple adventures kicked off with coring apples.
The kids each had a turn to turn the crank and peel the apple.
They had to use a lot of muscles.
They were surprised at what they found when they were done!
Mrs. McBroom showed them the different parts of the apple.
They were amazed at the skin of the apple!
They LOVED eating it!
They kept asking for more.
It was a yummy activity
that definitely left us with lots of smiles!
Next up was investigating our apples.
We were busy being apple scientists.
They checked to see which apples weighed the most.
They measured to see how tall the apples were.
They also discovered that apples float!
Next was the taste testing.
We tried green apples.
Some thought that was a little too sour!
We tried yellow apples.
We also tried red apples.
We even tried a Honey Crisp apple.
The kids tasted all of the apples.
Not everyone liked ALL of the apples.
But they had a great time trying them all.
After trying all the apples
the kids voted for their favorite color.
When they came to school, the kids wore their favorite color of apple. Most kids wore red.
Two kids wore yellow.
And two kids wore green.
When we checked our vote after tasting the apples, we discovered that Honey Crisp was the favorite!
Our apple adventures continued with apple stamping.
The kids made the shape of the letter A with an apple stamp.
While we waited for our apple sauce to cook, we went outside and cheered for the junior high WALK-A-THON.
They were working hard to raise money for an organization called Phil's Friends.
We even found some fun people we knew
and got a few high fives along the way!
Finally it was time to try our applesauce.
Some kids LOVED it!
Some couldn't get enough!
Others weren't so excited about it.
Some kids wished every day would be Apple Adventure day, but...
We are looking forward to more adventures next week!
