One SUPER "Sense-sational" Week

It was one SUPER SENSE-sational week!
Monday were ready to celebrate our 10th day of school with Zero Hero Day!

First we headed to the gym with Mrs. Jennings

This week the kids enjoyed a game called Turtle Tag.
Once they got tagged,

they had to act like a turtle!

Then a friend came and rolled them over, so they could run around again.
Our day continued as we headed outside to practice our "super flying" skills.

Back in the classroom, we were busy playing a missing number game.

The villain took a number,
and these super heroes had to save the number!

The kids were also busy working on patterns this week.

Once they made a pattern, they could work on designs.

Next up for these super students... saving letters!

If they had the letter I called, they used their super hero to save it.

In the afternoon, we read this AMAZING book about the power to choose.  If you haven't read this book with your child, check it out!
Then some super heroes showed up to save our towers.
First the kids rolled the dice to see how many blocks they had to stack.
Once they got their blocks stacked,
they had to try to balance their super hero on top.
It was quite the trick!
Saving land animals was also on our agenda.

The kids worked hard to get the animals to balance.
Our sense of touch was also hard at work making different textures with different tools.

Beautiful masterpieces!
What a SUPER day!

Don't go yet, our week is just getting started!
Tuesday we headed over to have chapel with Miss Steinbacher.
She talked with us about how we need to open our Bibles
To discover some amazing but true stories!
We also celebrated another Baptismal Birthday!

Serving up patterns was next on the agenda.

While the "customers" closed their eyes, the mystery chef left a pattern to complete.

We kept working on our sense of taste as we fed Roger the Robot some alphabet cookies.

The kids practiced making the letter sound as they fed the robot.

They had to be careful, so he wouldn't nibble their fingers!
They LOVED this game (and I loved hearing their giggles)!

They can't wait for Roger the Robot to come back again.
Alphabet soup was also on the menu!

The kids had to use the tongs to pick up their alphabet cubes.
This activity is helping us practice our letters AND work on our fine motor skills.
The cooks let us borrow some food boxes and containers to help us with our tasty Tuesday alphabet adventures.

The kids were letter detectives, looking for all the letters they could find on the food.
Outside, the kids had a blast serving up some delicious alphabet meals.

They had to look for the letters hiding on their food,

And write the letters down before "eating" it!

The kids also loved serving up more patterns in the afternoon.

The waitress (or waitor) delivered some shapes in a bowl.
The customer had to figure out a pattern using the shapes from the bowl.
They had to think carefully.
It could be a shape pattern or a color pattern.
If it was a good pattern,

The baker put it in the oven and baked it.

It was a terrific, tasty Tuesday!

Wednesday we were all set for music with Mrs
 Crumrine.

The kids did some fantastic dancing
as they moved to the beat of the song.

On our way back to our classroom, we stopped to sit outside and use our sense of hearing.

When they opened their eyes, they told their friend what sounds they heard.

The kids also enjoyed working together with the soft blocks and hard blocks.

The hard part was using whisper voices as they worked!

Musical instruments helped us use our sense of hearing,

as we practiced playing the syllables in each other's names.

We also played our instruments when we heard our letter sound called.

Mrs. Collins took the kids outside to play a special version of musical chairs.

When the music stopped, the kids had to find a hula hoop

and call out the letter they landed on.

In the afternoon, Miss Steinbacher stopped
by to help us practice our memory verse.

She helped them make a card reminding them...
God is love!

The heat couldn't stop us from MOVING and SHAKING...
One more day to go!

Thursday morning we were all very brave and practiced a school wide fire drill.

Thursday we were also busy working on our sense of sight.

These special cubes also helped us practice hearing the sounds in words .

The kids each practiced saying each sound in a word as they slid the block.
"/c/-/a/-/t/"

Then we practiced sliding the sounds back together.
CAT!

We also played a fun game trying to guess which letter was missing.

Once we figured out the letter, the kids built the letter with some special pieces.

Our technology coordinator, Mrs. Donner stopped by too.
She brought a microscope to help with our sense of sight!

The kids thought this tool was amazing!

They got to examine their fingerprints!

They also looked at a leaf up close, looking for the shapes of letters.

Do you see an "H"?

In the afternoon, we read another one of my favorite stories! We had a wonderful conversation about what it means to feel “invisible” and how we can make sure everyone in our classroom feels noticed, included, and important. We also talked about what we can do when we are the ones feeling left out or unseen. Such a sweet story with such an important message for our kindergarten hearts! ❤️

The kids finished off the day using invisible blocks and number blocks.

We built a lot of fun memories this week...
Another SUPER week is right around the corner!
