Don't BUG me! I'm learning

I wonder what is on the menu for this week...

Mrs. Steinbacher got us started with gym this week.

The kids were excited to play Jesus Tag again!

The kids were excited to play "BUGS ARE OUT" during math.

Everybody had to close their eyes.  One friend took some bugs out of the bug trap.

Then we had to figure out how many escaped.

The kids they went back to the table and worked with a partner to play the game.

The kids had to guess how many were still hiding in the trap.
5 were out that meant 0 were left in the trap!

After reading this wonderful book by Eric Carle,

We had some buggy reading adventures!

When I called out a word they had to find the firefly

that matched the beginning sound.

They used special flashlights to make the fireflies shine.

Then they collected alphabet bugs...
and had to put them in the correct jar.

In the afternoon we were busy sorting bugs.
And making bug graphs.

We were also busy making stamps with bottles

and balloons!

Later we cut out these prints and turned them into bugs!

We ended our day with a special birthday reader!

He brought one of Corinne's favorite books!

The kids couldn't stop laughing!
It was a great way to end our day!

Tuesday we started off our day with a school wide earthquake drill!  The kids did GREAT!

More buggy activities helped us practice subitizing.

The kids had a great time swatting these alphabet bugs.

When I called out a letter sound,

the child who had the letter had to smack it!

We headed out to the hallway to play a matching game too!

The kids picked up a lowercase bug

and had to find the uppercase one that matched.

Then they had to practice writing the letter on their paper.

After reading The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle,

The kids had fun playing The LadyBug game.

The kids had to read the number and move that many spaces.  They also collected aphids and had to stay away from the praying mantis.  They LOVED this game!

Another sensory activity was using clay and sticks to create bugs.

Check out these spiders!

We were caught in a "web" of learning!

Music class on Wednesday had us moving and a SHAKING!
The kids each played an animal shaped shaker as they sang Chicka Chicka BOOM BOOM!

Back in the classroom, the kids went investigating for bugs.
They had to look in the pond with their magnifying glass.

Once they found a bug,
they brought it back to their table and practiced writing that letter.

The kids also enjoyed this bug game.

They found a letter hiding under a bug.

Whichever letter they found,
everyone had to practice writing it.

These girls were SO excited about finding a ladybug at recess!

In the afternoon we were busy balancing bugs.

First we had to predict how many bugs it would take to balance a marker, a scissors, and a magnet.

Then we tested to see how many bugs it really took!

The kids also enjoyed painting bubble wrap!

They LOVED seeing the "big reveal" when they were all done!

These masterpieces will be a part of the memory verse book!

These lovely little ladies were so excited to discover they were all wearing blue on Thursday!

We headed to chapel first on Thursday to start off our day.

Ms. Steinbacher led our chapel. We talked about things we might be afraid.

Then she reminded us of a very special Bible verse:
Be strong and courageous... Joshua 1:9
God is stronger than anything we might be afraid of!

Calling all super heroes!  We were ready to celebrate another zero hero day.
We were on the hunt for missing alphabet super heroes.

The kids drove pushed Captain America down and watched him drive away!

Whatever letter he landed the kids practiced saying the name and sound of that letter.

Outside the kids were busy tossing letters to super heroes.
First a friend wrote down what letter they should aim for.

Then they said the letter sound and tossed the bean bag to that letter.
After reading this silly story about a talent show on Noah's boat,

The kids had a blast playing this floating game!

First they picked a "boat".

Then they had to see how many animals would fit on the boat before it sank!

The kid were SO excited to see how many their boat could hold.

They also giggled with delight when their boat sank!

Some kids even did a little when they got their animals to float!

I told them this would be a great game to play in their bathtub!  :)
The kids also enjoyed building their own arks.

Some even got inside of our "pool" and worked together.

Friday we were busy building and creating first thing in the morning.

Then we headed to gym class with Mrs. Jennings.

They had four new games to play!

Time for our Friday dance party!

During snack time we were busy talking about our sense taste.

The kids stuck out their tongues and showed each other their taste buds.

We learned all about the different parts of our tongue
that let us taste sweet, salty, and sour!

In math we were busy serving up different amounts of food.

We had to match the number to the correct amount of customers.

For our reading stations we were busy "making" s'mores.

The kids were also excited to feed our puppet the alphabet s'more!

The kids were also using the "s'more" clay to make different letters.

Some used the pencils to write the letter in the clay.

After reading this hilarious book about sharing...

We practiced making s'more towers!
First they had to spin the spinner.
Whatever number they landed on...
they had to add that many chocolate bars to their graham cracker.
They couldn't let their s'more drop!
When their team was all of out of chocolate bars, they got to "eat" their s'more!
They were also busy rolling s'mores and making a graph.
First they had to roll the s'more dice.

Whatever it landed on,

they had to mark it off on their graph.

They excited to see which won had the most rolls
and didn't want to stop playing!

We ended our week with our first Friday reader!

Madelynn's mom brought in one of the kids' favorite books!

The kids LOVE having special readers.

What a special way to end our week!

Another TREEmendous week is headed our way...
