Dr. Seuss is on the Loose!

We were all set for another exciting week!

We were digging in the mailbox looking for "letters" to be delivered to the right house.

Each house had a certain word family we were looking for...
-at
-ip
-og

We also got to work building houses out of clay  and other materials.

Look at this fancy car house!

These houses needed to line up to make a sentence.

They each got a house and had to figure where it belonged on the street.

This group was up for the challenge of three mixed up sentences!

They were so proud of themselves when they figured out all three sentences.

The kids couldn't wait to build their own house out of graham crackers!

They each received two graham crackers and some icing.

Each one had their own way of designing their house.

The best part was eating it!

The kids were also busy using pattern blocks to make houses.

In this tricky game, the kids had to guess which house the person was hiding in.

Everyone had to write down the teen number of where they thought the person was hiding.

They were excited to discover they were right!

Tuesday started off with a very special surprise!

We had our first "masked reader"!

The kids could only ask "YES" or "NO" questions to try to figure out who our mystery reader was.
They did a great job of guessing and were thrilled to discover...

Mr Marolf was our MASKED READER!

He read to them his favorite book... Where the Wild Things Are.

Then he taught them to ROAR their terrible ROARS!

BE STILL!

We can't wait to find out who our next "Masked Reader" is!

We were also busy lassoing teens!  The first person tried to lasso a group of ten.

The second person added to the hoop to make sure there were 10.  Then we figured out what the teen number was by adding in the extras.
10 + 2 extras= 12

The kids had SO much fun with this, but...

We accidentally lassoed a kindergartner instead of a teen!  :)

Next up was building words!

The kids worked together to get the job done.

First the project manager found the "blue print" that I called out.

They handed it to the shopper who had to go get the building materials from Home Depot.

The shopper had to find all the right letter blocks.

The construction worker had to build the word.

The inspector wrote down the word to make sure it was written correctly.

They were also busy using these word stick to build houses.

In the afternoon we headed outside to act out the story of Jesus triumphant ride into Jerusalem.

The kids each had a turn to ride into Jerusalem.

We had our very own Palm Parade!

The kids LOVED reading this WONDERFUL book and were inspired to create their own dream houses.

They used a variety of materials to build houses.

One station was building with soft blocks.

They also built houses using boxes and other random materials.

Some friends even made furniture for their houses!

Another station, the kids used Lincoln logs to make houses.

They discovered they can build bigger houses if they worked together.

These wooden planks and blocks were another exciting material the kids built with.

The wooden planks connected together like a puzzle!

Teamwork makes the dreamwork!

Watch out!  It was time for WACKY WEDNESDAY!

We started off the day with crazy catching in gym class!

Our reading stations got a little WACKY!
The kids each took a turn crawling through the tunnel to find either a real word or a nonsense word.

Even our sight words were wacky!

The kids worked together to put them all back together.

They were so encouraging and did a great job of working together to get the job done.
After reading this WACKY weather story...
the kids were up for the challenge of creating their own wacky weather "stamp".

They cut up foam paper and bubble wrap to create their stamp.  They couldn't wait to see how it would turn out.

Even  recess was a little wacky!

They were SO excited for another chance to climb up the slide!
They did such a great job of cheering for each other!

In the afternoon they had a chance to paint with their wacky weather stamp.

They created quite the beautiful collages.

Ms. Steinbacher was back with another great activity to help the kids with their memory verse.

Hosanna!  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD!

These sticks allowed the kids to make some wacky creations.

They LOVED this new building material!

Of course we had to read this WACKY weather book!

The kids even had a chance to feel some OOOOOBLECK!

Some kids weren't too thrilled about touching it!

Other kids dug right in and LOVED it!

It was  a GREAT Wacky Wednesday!

Thursday we geared up for some adventures with The Foot Book.

My giant foot pillow represented a stack of 10!

We added a few shoes to our stack of 10.

Another friend had to find the teen number that showed how many feet we had ALL together!

This was a matching memory feet game.  Each pair of feet had a sight word hiding on the back.

These feet were all mixed up!
When they put the feet in the right order...

it made a sentence!

The kids also went for a feet hunt in the hallway.

Each pair of feet had a cvc word hiding on the back.  They challenged themselves to find all the feet!
In the afternoon, we were busy painting feet!

Even Mr. Debrick came to join in on the fun!

The kids could not believe a principal would paint their feet!

Some thought it kind of tickled!  :)

We made a little footprint on their memory verse artwork.

The kids also practiced serving each other by washing each other's feet!

Some kids couldn't stop giggling because their friend was so wiggly!
It was a way to remember the story of Jesus' washing His disciples feet.
I hope they always remember this special moment.

Mrs. Donner also popped by!

She helped each child "fly" to their house!

What an UNBELIEVABLE day!

We finished our Dr. Seuss adventures with Cat in the Hat!
All kinds of hats showed up.    Mario hats...
Beach hats...
and winter hats too!

Our morning started with the "Mexican Hat Dance"!

In math we were pulling teen numbers out of a hat.

I gave a giant jump for 10.  They added onto my 10 with tiny steps to make the teen number.

We also had fun playing bingo...

They had to pull the number out the sombrero and call it out.
For reading stations we were busy hiding sight words under hats!

One friend hid a word under each teammate's hat.

After they checked under their hat,

they had to read the word and write it down.

These hats helped us make some sentences.

I told them the sentence. They took turns looking for the next hat in the sentence.

They brought it back to the table

and assembled their sentence.

In the afternoon, the kids had a BLAST shopping for hats!

The shopper brought the hat to the person taking inventory.  That person wrote down the price and the word on the hat.

Then they stopped by the banker to get some money.

The banker had to give the customer the right amount of pennies.

The cashier typed in the price.

The customer enjoyed a new hat!

WHEW!  What a week!

Hats off to a GREAT week full of wonderful memories!
