We were shining bright for RED RIBBON week!
We started off the week with....
We also had some MONSTROUSLY fun adventures!
Our "Morning Meeting" included a round of .... "The monsters go marching around the room hurrah, hurrah. "
Then we grabbed a monster and used a NEON highlighter to trace the letter that matched.
These monster fingers helped us do a little monster hunting!
The kids had to use the monster finger to point to a monster that had the correct picture on it to match the letter they picked.
The kids enjoyed meeting this little monster!
Today he was hungry for words that started with /s/ and...
little fingers!
If their picture started with /s/
they had to carefully drop it into the monster's mouth.
The kids had to be careful
not to get nibbled by the monster!
They LOVED this game! :)
They were also busy playing a monster syllable game.
Each kid picked a card from the bucket.
Whatever card they pulled out
they had to tap it out with the pumpkin cups.
Then they placed the card on the right pile: 1 syllable, 2 syllables, or 3 syllables.
Next up... we read this GREAT book by our illustrator of the month Ed Emberley.
The kids got out their creative minds and made their own monsters out of all kinds of shapes!
The kids also enjoyed playing a game called... "ONE MORE PLEASE!"
One partner put the monster's food in the 10 frame...
Then the monster called out, "ONE MORE PLEASE"! This helps us with our math lesson practicing adding one more.
We played the same game only we used buttons for the monster's eyeballs!
Of course our Monday was not complete until we had LIBRARY! :)
We were such hard workers, we had extra time to sneak outside.
What a great way to start the week!
Three cheers for SPORTS DAY!
We were busy exercising our way through the alphabet.
Look at these crazy jumping jacks for the letter J!
Then it was time to get our game faces on and get to work!
The kids had a great time using loose parts to make monsters.
They used magnetic wands to pick up these silly monsters
and then had to find the correct lowercase letter that matched.
Then the kids had to use their powerful breath
to paint a crazy monster?
They couldn't believe how they turned out!
They even got to name their crazy monsters!
Who knew monsters would be such beautiful masterpieces!
They also enjoyed making monsters with play-doh
and adding eyeballs onto their monsters.
Some even left spaces for eyeballs.
Measuring monsters was also a challenge the kids had to face.
After measuring, they wrote down how many linking cubes it took to make the monster.
We were so sad to see Sports Day go, but we had to move on to another adventure!
Wednesday was CRAZY HAIR Day!
From mohawks...
to cupcake hair! We had it all!
We started off playing our spider game in the gym.
The flies were trying really hard not to get caught by the spiders.
If they did get caught, they had to go to the spider web and count to 10.
In this exciting game,
the kids were trying to carefully get the spiders out of the web.
Once they caught one
they had to place it on a letter on the alphabet chart.
The last step was practicing naming the letter and the sound that it makes.
More spider web fun...
this time the kids were strengthening their writing fingers by using geoboards.
They came up with some very unique spiderwebs.
In the afternoon, we were busy adding spiders.
After rolling the dice, the kids slid that many spiders on their pole.
Then they had to add one more
and write that number down.
Ms. Steinbacher was back to help us with out with our memory verse.
She had a GREAT way to review the verse before going in the hallway to record it.
Good-bye CrAzY HaIr DAY!
What came after that CRAZY day???
Was it time to take a little snooze???? NO!
We were NOT sleeping on the job...
It was PAJAMA DAY!
Pastor Nelson had the tough job of keeping us awake during chapel! :)
He was up for the challenge. He showed us how our sins are like rocks.
We can't carry them around for too long before they become too heavy and overwhelming. That's why Jesus came to carry them to the cross for us. He died for ALL of our sins, so we don't have to carry them any more.
Thank you SO much for supporting our church workers! Next week our offering will be SUPER HERO toys for Friends of Kids with Cancer.
Back in the classroom we were excited to have a little Book Buddy time.
Our stuffies are such good listeners!
The kids did a great job of reading to their little friends.
Our nursery rhyme of the day was "Hey Diddle Diddle".
So Mrs. Donner came to help us with a little STEM project!
Each kid made a catapult.
They practiced getting their pom pom to fly.
Then the challenge was to catapult the cow!
Do you see the orange cow flying through the air?!
This blue cow what flying in the air too!
The kids were able to take their catapults home.
Hopefully you had some fun with them too! :)
In this game the kids got to jump over the moons!
It was like a moon obstacle course as they hopped over each moon.
Each moon had a letter on it. They had to say the sound and trace over the letters they hopped over.
In this game the spoon was trying to find his dish!
Each dish had a capital letter and the spoons had lowercase letters.
I called out a letter sound. If they had the spoon that matched that sound, they had to find it's dish.
Some kids even challenged themselves to read words and find the rhyming dish!
The kids were also doing a little alphabet laundry as they played "PAJAMA TIME"!
We were also busy with our pajamas during math.
My laundry helpers "hid" some pajamas on the carpet.
We filled a 10 frame to show how many pajamas were on the carpet.
Then we yelled out, "ONE MORE PLEASE!" and a added a slipper to our pajama pile.
The kids also enjoyed measuring their stuffies.
They were amazed at how many linking cubes long they were.
This shark was 28 linking cubes long!
This little guy was only six!
They also were able to measure my pajamas (or my kids' pajamas☺).
Some kids even checked to see how many linking cubes they were!
Our finger painting project
helped us practice our memory verse.
Their was a hidden cross in this little masterpiece!
Their was no time for SNOOZING on this Pajama Day!
We finished Red Ribbon Week by wearing our favorite red or pink shirt!
Of course we kicked off the day with some dancing!
Time for our Friday hugs to start the day!
These little fire fighters were busy saving letters.
First they were given some helmets.
I called out a word. If they had the helmet that matched the beginning sound,
they took the firefighter for a ride to the right house.
In this game, the fire chief hid letters under the helmets.
The firefighters hid their eyes so they would be surprised.
When they lifted their helmet, they wrote down the letter they got
and went to find the matching lowercase letter.
The kids learned a new game called BUMP.
First they rolled the dice and covered that number up with a linking cube.
If player number two also rolled that same number, they could bump their friend off.
Then they claimed that number as their own.
The kids LOVED this new game!
We ended our exciting week, another GREAT Friday Reader!
She read a hilarious book a dog that gave advice on what to eat
(but NEVER EAT BEES!).
It was the perfect way to end the week!
Hands up for a GREAT Red Ribbon Week!
Hang in there... more fun headed your way next week!
