Undercover Operations

Take a LOOK at what crazy adventures we were up to this week!

The cold, icy weather couldn't stop our creative brains from working hard!

We started off the week working on the "an" chunk".
Like man, pan, and fan.

We used letter cards to play the game "Switch".

Putting magnetic letters our "spelling pan" also help us cook up some great words!

We finished up January by celebrating how unique we are.

SO we had a challenge of making cookie cutter people.

Then we were going to check to see if there was anything different about each cookie.

But first we had to wait for them to bake.
While we waited we worked on reading "word families".

They spun the dial and wrote down the word they made.

After reading the story of the gingerbread man,

they practiced subtracting some gingerbread men.

They each had a turn pretending to eat the cookies and taking some away.

Finally in the afternoon it was time to eat our cookies!

When we went to get them off of the tray...

the cookies had disappeared!

The Gingerbread Man did leave us a clue...
"I've run away, and taken my friends too.
To find me, you must follow the "U" clues.
You need to look UP and UNDER things too.
Thursday I'll be back to have some fun with you..."
Needless to say we were a little disappointed but excited too.
We also discovered...WAITING IS HARD!
A great way to keep ourselves busy was starting off Wednesday

with a school wide chapel service.

We even celebrated two special teachers at Zion.
They were officially  "installed" to be teachers at Zion.

We had a special chapel offering that went to a mission in India.
The school collected:
$455.87
Back in the classroom we were getting ready for Groundhogs Day!

We were looking in the hallway to find these little groundhogs shadows.

Each groundhog had a word on it.

The kids had to find the shadow that matched and write it down.

These little groundhogs were hiding behind clouds or suns.
The kids had to write down where they thought the ground hog was hiding.
These little groundhogs were helping us with our spelling.

They had to put together the groundhogs to make a word that matched the picture.
We finished off our day by predicting if the groundhog would see his shadow or not.
A majority of kindergartners thought he would see his shadow.

Looks like 6 more weeks of winter is headed our way!
Thursday finally came, and we were all set to go undercover!

We were trying to figure out where we should start to look for the Gingerbread man when Mrs. Helmkamp stopped by!
She had a tricky clue that said...

It took us a little bit, but we figured out it must be the SONSHINE CENTER!

We facetimed Mrs. Oswald (one of our preschool teacher) and her clue led us to Mrs. Rouland's room.

We bundled up and headed down the hall.

Mrs. Thomas was there with her preschoolers.

She gave us clue number 3!   This clue told us to find Mr. Maddick.

We headed outside to look for more clues.

We found a clue on Mr. Maddick's window!

We even found some footprints!
"Are you looking for another clue?
Try knocking upon the window of grade #2!"

We found another clue on Mrs. Ford's window!
We figured out we must tap on the door of Mr. Marolf.

Mr. Marolf met us outside his office.

He read the clue with Brynlee...
We figured out that had to be Mr. Debrick but he was out of the office.

SOOOO... Mrs. Holtz told us to go find Mrs. Bernhardt!

We found all kinds of footprints on her window.

A clue also appeared...
"I was hungry until I went to this place.
I got food in my tummy and a smile on my face!"

We headed inside to see the cooks!

They had clue #9.

Sooo... we headed outside for a quick break (which the kids were NOT happy about!).

Outside they were busy looking for clues.

They were about to give up...

When we found a clue on the ground!

The clue told us to go where two pastors are...

Mrs. Adams met us down in the church basement.  She said she saw the gingerbread man!

He also left her a very tricky clue

"He has lots of keys that do not unlock doors.
Because he plays the piano and so much more!"
This was a bit of a challenge to figure out,

suddenly we realized it had to be Mr. Thoelke because he plays the piano and the organ!

Mr, Thoelke met us on the stairs.

He told us we needed to look for the gingerbread man's uncle.

We weren't exactly sure where to find that, so we headed outside.

The picture was hiding on Pastor Fieberkorn's window!
He also had a clue for us.

"The next clue is up the stairs but only your teacher can go up there."

We wandered over to the junior high building where we found clue #14!

Some fun junior high teachers came outside to help us.
The clue said...
The kids were very disappointed. We talked about how we needed to regroup and recover.
We needed to come up with a new plan.
When we turned the corner to head back to our classroom...

We found clue #15.

This game has been undeniably fun!
But I have to go now.  I have to run.
SO go back to your classroom and you will see
a special surprise just from me!

Back in the classroom we found a book the gingerbread man left.
We looked in the book and found one last clue that promised he would be back in the afternoon.

The book gave us some ideas on how to catch him.  We decided maybe we needed to make him a house and maybe he was just lonely and needed friends!

The fox came back to help us with some subtracting.

Everyone had to close their eyes.
Once they opened they had to figure out how many cookies the fox ate.

In the afternoon we got to work making houses.

We were also working on measuring gingerbread people.

We were trying to figure out just how big our little friend could be.

The kids also enjoyed making gingerbread traps.

After the traps were set,

we headed outside to see if the gingerbread man would return.

We sneaked back inside.

We were surprised by what we found.

A giant picture of the gingerbread man and...

OUR COOKIES!

Our cookies were back with icing!

We were SO excited to decorate our own cookies.

It was a yummy way to end our adventure.

We were all stacked up

to finish the week in style.
It was CHARACTER DAY!
We just couldn't hide our excitement!

Some fun characters showed up for our Friday dance party!

The kids were busy reading and sorting gingerbread men to the right house.

They also had fun taking these gingerbread friends for a ride.

They sent the gingerbread friend

under the table to another friend.

Once they looked at the gingerbread friend
they found a picture on the front.
They wrote down the beginning sound that they heard on the picture.

They also enjoyed spelling the words on these little gumdrops.

Character  Day was a great way to end the week!
From SUPERHEROES
to Star Wars characters
we had it all!

We ended our week with a special Friday reader to celebrate our birthday girl!

Stayed tuned for more fun adventures next week!
