It was hard to MATCH all of last week's fun adventures, but we were up for the challenge!
a bunch of mitten adventures blew into our room!
The kids were hard at work matching up these CVC mitten words.
Then we shook things up a bit and went outside.
Some marbles and a little paint
and whole lot of shaking...
Put all of that together...
to make a marvelous, mitten masterpiece!
We also worked on making a graph of the characters from the mitten story.
Mittens are not just good for keeping hand warm...
They are also good for measuring!
We used little mittens and big mittens
to measure some LONG scarfs.
We then wrote down how long each scarf was.
For math, we used our winter wear to practice adding and subtracting.
The kids had to clothes their eyes. When they opened their eyes they had to say if we subtracted our added winter wear to their friend. :)
We also began getting ready for Valentines Day this week.
The kids worked together to paint this giant heart.
Look for this little reminder of God's love in the hallway.
The kids have been waiting for this day ALL year....
HIP HIP HOORAY! IT'S OUR 100th DAY!
We started our day HOPPING our way to 100!
It was a little exhausting, but we made it!
Next ZERO the HERO showed up!
It's a Cheerio, it's a bagel... NO! It's ZERO the HERO! The kids LOVED this book!
We were dressed for success to face the day!
Before we got started...
We headed over for chapel for a very special chapel service.
Mrs. Thoelke and Zion's band led chapel.
They had us dancing in our seats
as they retold the story of Jonah
and the big fish.
They even played BABY SHARK!
The kids did a fantastic job of acting out the story. They even threw Jonah OVERBOARD!
The kindergartners had a BLAST listening and participating in Mrs. Thoelke's chapel service. :)
Back in the classroom...
the celebrating continued.
The kids really had to have a lot of self-control to put together their 100 day snack.
They picked out 10 of 10 food items
to make a 100 bag full of yummy goodness.
They also played 100 hopscotch.
They tossed the snowball
and counted by 10's as they reached the snowball.
Our 100 day show n' share bags were quite the balancing act.
We predicted with our arms, which item we thought would be the lightest/heaviest.
Some of the results were a little surprising!
Some items were sooo heavy we had to bring in a scale!
Here are 100 bouncy balls.
One hundred cars actually took two bags that we added up to equal 7 pounds!
Some kids discovered they could even make 100 with their food at lunchtime! :)
WEEEE!!!
We slid our way down the slide to celebrate 100 days of school!
We even found some friendly faces outside!
Then it was time... to... run!
Our day wasn't done yet...
We were working hard to turn our pattern blocks
into the shape of 100!!!
100 dot painting also kept us busy.
We used 10 different colors
to paint 10 dots in each section.
We also went on a number hunt, looking for numbers 1-100.
100 stacking cups was exciting to create with,
but first they had to count out 100 cups before they could create with them.
They even counted out 100 blocks to use with the cups.
This group worked together to turn their cups into a heart shape!
The moment the kids had been waiting for... SNACK!
They devoured their 100 bag of snacks!
100 day was a great day, but our week wasn't done yet!
Wednesday we kicked off the day with a special gym class led by Mrs. Steinbacher.
These two 5th graders helped us learn more about the Kid's Heart Challenge characters and how to stay healthy.
Then we got right to work practicing for our big Olympic event next week!
We will be jumping and moving for 30 minutes next week.
It's not too late to donate to the Kids Heart Challenge!
We used these little "sleds" to help us read words.
The sleds were hiding under piles of snow (with sight words on them).
When they picked up their snow pile...
each kid had a different sled word that they practiced reading and writing.
Our sled letters were back!
The kids took turns picking a sled and then everyone wrote down the missing letter.
The kids had a blast in the hallway sending this sled to their friend.
The sled had 3 letter cubes on it. The kids took turns putting the letters together to make a word.
These "sleds" had words attached to them.
The kids slid them together to make a sentence.
WEEEE!
In the afternoon, the kids had SOOOO much fun continuing our 100th day celebration!
They did 100 seconds of work with their 8th grade buddies.
They played catch for 100 seconds.
They dribbled a basketball for 100 seconds.
They hula hooped for 100 seconds.
They tried to keep the balloon in the air for 100 seconds.
They even stacked for 100 seconds!
YAY! We had a blast with our new friends!
This silly story based on "10 in the Bed" had the kids laughing with excitement to see what animal would fall off next!
The kids got to work making more ramps.
Then they raced their sleds down the ramps to see which one was fastest!
This group worked SO hard to create this amazing ramp!
They even made a "baby" ramp to go with it!
YAY! We have a winner!
Our green sled was back to help us with adding and subtracting this time!
The kids had to write down the number sentence to match what happened to the sled!
There were 2 animals on the sled and 2 more jumped on.
We also have fun creating some masterpieces with bubble wrap!
After painting the bubble wrap, we pressed a piece of paper down on top...
TA DA!
Look at the bubble prints on these hearts!
Our exciting week continued...
with some "snowy" day activities without SNOW!
These snowflakes were all mixed up.
The kids worked together to put them together to make a sentence.
The sled was back! This time it was carrying some CVC words.
The kids grabbed a snowman
and used magnetic letters to practice spelling the word on the snowman.
This may look a lot like salt, but
we used our imagination to pretend it was snow.
We practiced writing our letters in the "snow".
Our 100 Day show n' share bags were back.
This time we were trying to see how long one hundred is.
This is one hundred noodles.
One hundred beads.
One hundred gems/marbles.
We had to get a little creative with laying out 100 bouncy balls.
The kids were hard at work with their morning free time.
Some kids worked together to see how far they could go with a train of "SNAPOS".
Look how far they got!
The kids had so much fun with our popcorn word "snowball fight"!
I threw the words at them.
They read the word
and threw it back at me!
They couldn't help but smile when they played this game!
They even read sentences that melted in their "pocket".
SNOW much fun!
The kids had some fun making word snow forts.
Making letters in "snow" (a.k.a shaving cream)
brought lots of giggles and smiles.
In math we were busy practicing throwing "snowballs" (ping pong balls) into the sled.
We had to subtract any that fell out of the sled.
4-0=4
These little snowballs helped us with more subtracting.
We rolled some pretend snow into balls.
"This feels like real snow!"
We subtracted by smashing the snowballs.
4-1=3
This was a great way to end our "SNOWY DAY" activities!
Our Friday Reader joined us to end the day with lots of smiles and laughter!

She read us a hilarious book about a terrible dragon who really wasn't terrible.
We sure do love visits from our Friday readers! :)
