We are Like a Box of Crayons...

Here is a peek into our week...

The short week kept us busy

with learning adventures!

Pastor Fieberkorn led our chapel this week.

He talked about the wisemen and how they brought gifts to Jesus our KING.

Thank you for bringing in your gifts!

Final total for Bethlehem Bills is... Total = $2,017.83

After reading this WONDERFUL book, we talked more about how we are all unique and very special.

The kids rolled the letter dice and made "letters" out of crayons to match the dice!

Here is the letter Z!

They also worked hard adding people.

They first had to close their eyes.
The "teacher" put some people in each tray.

The rest of the kids had to right down the number sentence to match.   2+2=4

OpPoSiTe Day was the opposite of boring!

We kicked off the day with an opposite obstacle course.
The had to go over
under.

In and out.

They even went backwards through the obstacle course!

It wasn't easy, but they were up for the challenge!
Music class had us movin' and groovin'.

We were learning special hand motions to help us remember notes.

Do, Re, Mi...

Back in the classroom we were working with lots of opposites.

We used hard blocks and soft blocks to creates towers and buildings.

These blocks had capital and lowercase letters on them.

Whatever letters we used, we had to practice writing.

Some of the kids used the whole alphabet for their creations!

We also read a book about Tacky the Penguin.  He always did the OPPOSITE of what he was supposed to do!

The kids had fun matching the penguins to the right iceberg words.

They are becoming such great readers!

In the hallway they did a sight word obstacle course.

They had to go over and under the sight word cups and read them as they jumped and crawled.
This dice game kept the kids working hard and smiling too!
First they rolled the dice to see how many soft blocks they needed.

Then they rolled the dice again to see how many hard blocks they needed.

They had to put it all together...

to make some amazing masterpieces!

Who knew adding could be so fun!

Another game we played was with these pretend penguins.

Some of the penguins went under the "icebergs".
Some of them when on the "icebergs"

The kids had to write down the number sentence
to show how many penguins were swimming all together!

Penguins attention... Penguins unite!
It was hard to say good-bye to Opposite Day.  But we were ready for more adventures...
Thursday we celebrated Penguin Awareness Day!
We rearranged these "icebergs" to make a sentence.

Then the penguin hopped down the icebergs to help us put it all together.

It got a little tricky

trying to figure out which iceberg came first.

Especially when there were two words on each cup,
so they had to figure out which one made sense!

The did great with this activity!

More penguins were back to help us with our adding.
One friend put out small penguins and big penguins.
We used our fingers to show the number sentence.  2+3=5

We also read more fun Tacky stories!  You will have to ask your children what crazy adventures he goes on!

The kids had fun tracing around their foot
and creating some very unique penguins.

Feeding Tacky some fish (and snowballs)

helped the kids practice adding.

1 fish plus 2 snowballs = 3!
How could I forget our special visitor... Miss Julia (the kids think she looks a little like Mrs. Reed)!

She came to help us with our mystery recipe.
We poured 1 yellow cup of water
PLUS 1 yellow cup of water = 2 cups of yellow water.
2 cups of blue water
added to the 2 cups of yellow water made GREEN WATER!
The kids can't wait for Miss Julia to come back again.   ;)
Some more preschool friends joined us on Friday!
We showed them how great kindergarten is!

The kids made these little ramps
some even made diving boards!
The penguins slid down and landed on an iceberg.
The kids had to read and write down whatever word was on the iceberg.
They LOVED this game!
The kids had a blast painting with ice!

As the ice melted, they discovered it helped the paint spread around their paper.

They also enjoyed measuring my stuffed penguins.

This penguin was over 27 linking cubes tall!
These little penguins went flying down our shoots onto the iceberg.

We had to check to see how many landed on their belly and how many were on their backs.

Then we added them together.  2 black penguins + 1 white penguin= 3 penguins all together.

Then the kids got to work making their own slides for the penguins to slide down.

After the penguins went flying they added them up!

They even added a few fun features to their slide!  "Look!  We made a telescope!"

They LOVED this building and adding activity!

We loved our penguin adventures so much, we might just have a few more penguin activities next week!

It was so sad to see this week over, but we know next week will be filled with a lot more adventures!
