First Week of School... It's all good!

Welcome to kindergarten!
Let's take a peek into our short but very busy week!
We started off our first morning together building and creating.

The kiddos were already learning how to work together!
After cleaning up, we read our first story together...
The Kissing Hand!  You can listen to the story together here!

Our "birthday girl of the week" helped us flip the first number card of the year!  We will do this every day to keep track of how many days we have been in school.

Next up was Jesus Time!

We met a new friend named "Jelly" who was very nervous about coming to kindergarten.  The boys and girls were SO helpful and reminded him of all the wonderful things we will do in kindergarten.  But the BEST thing is learning about Jesus together!

The kids couldn't wait to get outside and be on the big kid playground!

We were very brave and joined the whole school for a school wide picture.
Stayed tuned to see how it turned out...

Back in the classroom we ended our quick day with some free time...

We even painted our hands
to create our very own "kissing hand"!

The kids loved using the logs to create homes for the animals.

They also had a chance to make tracks.

It was kind of like a puzzle!

We also had some friends work together to create a whole kingdom!

Magnatiles were also a big hit!

Don't go yet... our week was just getting started!
Wednesday we were back... and we brought our smiles

And our good thinking brains!

For Jesus time we talked about different types of shoes!
No matter where our shoes take us, we know God will ALWAYS be with us.

After reading this fun Pete the Cat book,
We took our number telescopes and hunted for Pete's missing shoes!

We found them all over Zion's campus.

There was even a shoe on Mr. Marolf's door!

He came outside and showed us some of his fanciest shoes!

If you didn't know this, Mr. Marolf has a lot of fancy shoes.  These have polka dots on them! :)

Our number journey continued.

Look carefully... we even found one on the sidewalk!

At last we found Pete hiding in the church!

It was a great adventure!
On our way back we found Mrs. Jennings rocking in her gym shoes!

We also found a few other fun people we knew!

Even our nurse stopped by to show us how she "rocks" in her school shoes!

For math we learned how to share a math tool called pattern blocks.

In the afternoon, Pete was back reminding us... "It's all good!"

The kids got to decorate Pete with buttons!

First they had to roll the dice to see how many buttons he would get.
Pete had some fancy outfits!
The kids were also excited to use something new... SNAP-O's!

Take a peek into our picture perfect Thursday!

Our story of the day was... CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM!

The kids each had a turn to put a letter on the tree.

Then they got to work painting their own coconut trees.

The kids also cut out some coconuts!  These special coconuts will come home next week...

Building their own alphabet trees was something the kindergartners also enjoyed.

It took a lot of concentration!
Some kids made the letters all fall down!

Some stacked them up tall.
Some kids even measured their tree trunk.

In the afternoon, we were rolling the dice to help us paint a huge coconut tree!

Once we rolled the dice our partner had to put that many splotches on the giant paper.
The kids also worked together to make tracks with these colorful squares.

Thursday quickly came to an end, but we were ready to come back for Friday...

Friday morning we started off first thing with Mrs. Jennings!
Normally we go to the gym for PE...

This time we headed outside to learn how to be safe on our playground.

The kids were excited to go on a dinosaur hunt!

The dinosaur pictures showed the kids how to use the equipment safely.

Back in the classroom we were busy working on our letters.

Once the kids made a letter with the wooden sticks,

they "bedazzled" it with fun shapes!

Look at the giant letter B!

Next up... the kindergartners were working hard to put their names on their coconut trees.

The letters were dancing and falling off of the tree!
Our letter cubes were back...

This time the teams worked together to build an alphabet house or tower with the cubes!

These boys were determined to get theirs to stand...

They were so proud of their creation!

The "construction workers" enjoyed working with these new wooden planks!

Chicka chicka BOOM BOOM!
Look what showed up in our classroom!

More coconut tree fun!
After building their tree,

the kids had to roll the dice.
That's how many coconuts they had to try to balance on their tree!

Whew!  What an exciting week full of smiles and adventures!
We are SO excited to see what adventures this year has in store for us!
