Seuss is on the Loose!

Dr. Seuss was on the loose this week!

Before we got started with our Seussical adventures we headed to the gym.

The kids had a great time playing "badminton" with balloons.

It took a lot of teamwork.

We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday by reading some fun Dr. Seuss books.

We also headed out to the hallway to play "Hop on Pop".

After picking a word,

each child had to find a word that rhymed with it.

Then they hopped on the word as they practiced spelling it.

Hurray for hopping adventures.

The kids also LOVED "hopping" on these new pop-its.

They helped the kids stretch out each sound in a word.

Then we practiced making nonsense words in honor of Dr. Seuss.

After reading this silly book, 

The kids had a chance to make up their own silly creations.

Tuesday we were all set for more creative adventures.

Mr. Debrick also stopped by on Tuesday. 

He came to teach us a little bit about Ash Wednesday.

Miss Steinbacher came too.

She showed us where the ashes would go.

and let us hold the jar, so we knew they wouldn't be hot.

In math, we were busy being magicians making things disappear!

The kids used the invisible jar to show how much they took away.

Abracadabra!

After reading this silly story, 

We went on a zebra safari looking for our sight words.

In the hallway the kids had to pull a picture out of a bucket.

Then they had to find the zebra letter that the picture started with.

Wednesday we braved the crazy blizzard and headed to music class.

We had some much fun singing and dancing with Mrs. Crumrine.

We also had a special Ash Wednesday chapel over at church.

Mrs. Lohman led a beautiful chapel service reminding us why we have Ash Wednesday.

Then each child had a chance to have ashes put on their head or their hand.

The kids were all very brave.

As said good-bye to our alleluias, we took our first step in our journey to the cross.

Back in the classroom, the crazy weather may have stopped us from having outside recess, 

but the kids loved building and creating.

This book taught us about lion and lamb weather.

We all agreed it was a LION day on Wednesday!

We played this lion game at one of our reading stations.

Each child took a card and had to read and write the word on their card.

They had to be careful not pull out the lion, they would lose all of their points!

In the afternoon Miss Steinbacher came to help us with our memory verse.

They had to run and grab a puzzle piece.

Then they had to work together to put the puzzle together and say their Bible verse.

Thursday we started off by reading this familiar book.

In math we were busy subtracting cars from the town.

One person put the cars on the road.

Another friend took them away.  Then we practiced writing the number sentence to match.

For one of our reading stations were busy driving over words!

First we had a to build a word with the letter tokens.

The kids each had a special car to drive over the word.

They were really safe drivers.

The kids also had a chance to drive to their heart words.

The kids also enjoyed looking for the hot air balloon cvc words in our classroom.

The kids had a blast racing cars to letter in the hallway!

One person raced the car down the ramp.

Which ever letter the car landed closest too,

was the letter the partner had to write down.

Look what popped up in our classroom...

HATS OFF to Friday!

Before kicking off Hat Day, we headed to the gym to play pickle ball.

The kids had a great time playing pickle ball and badminton.

The kids had a blast back in the classroom learning the Mexican Hat dance!

Before reading this wonderful story....

We played a little subtraction with our "peddler's" hats.

The monkey came and stole the hats.

Then the kids had to come up with the correct number sentence.

Finally it was time to read this classic story by Dr. Seuss.

The kids enjoyed working as a team to create these "hat" towers.

 

On every "hat" was a word they had to read.

The kids made some wonderful Seuss like towns.

Some mixed up hats made it into the hallway.  The kids had to put them in the right order.

Our wonderful Friday reader came to visit us in the morning.

She read to the kids the perfect story for our Hat Day... Caps for Sale.

The kids absolutely LOVED hearing this story!

We were so excited to enjoy some sunshine to finish off our week!
