Our First Full Week of School

Our week was stacked up high with adventures!
Take a peek into our week...

Mrs. Jennings, our gym teacher, started off the week with an outdoor gym class!

She led the kids on a dinosaur hunt.

Every dinosaur led them to a piece of playground equipment.  They reviewed the correct way to use each piece of equipment to keep everyone safe,

Back in the classroom we read a silly book about how Z wanted to be first in line!

The kids had a great time building with our alphabet blocks.

The kids also enjoyed playing our CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM game.

I called out a letter.
If they had that letter, they yelled BOOM BOOM!

Then they hit the letter with their BOOM stick.
We also worked hard using wooden sticks to make letters.

In the afternoon we were busy using our counting skills
and our fine motor skills.

First the kids rolled the dice.

Then they had to uses tweezers to put that many branches on the tree without it falling...

BOOM BOOM!

The kids also used a new math tool called attribute blocks.

They had a chance to explore and create with them this week.

Tuesday brought more alphabet adventures as we used playdoh to create letters.

This helped us practice our letters and strengthen our writing muscles.

Next up the kids practiced taking turns as they played an alphabet matching game.

In the afternoon, we read this wonderful book.  We also talked about how our words are very powerful and can hurt OR help people.  Ask your child about the crumpled heart we made.

Then we talked about how special our names are.

Each child decorated their name with polka dots and told me about their special name.

More learning adventures took place on Wednesday!

We started off the day meeting Mrs. Crumrine our music teacher.

The kids had fun singing and learning new songs.

We can't wait to see what fun we will have with Mrs. Crumrine next week.

Later in the morning we headed back over to church.

This time we were headed to chapel.  Pastor Rouland led our chapel with his buddy Rupert!

Zion Lutheran School’s chapel offerings will support a Lutheran Bible Translator project in Tanzania to translate the Bible for the Kerewe (Care uh way) people.  Every $35 will translate one verse of the Bible for these people.  Zion’s goal is to start with John chapter 14, where our theme verse comes from, and then at least 3 more chapters from the Gospel of John. Thanks for your support!

We also were excited to celebrate 3 baptismal birthdays in our class!

After reading the silly story, I Like Myself,
The kids set to work using loose parts to create people!

The kids were so creative with what they came up with to create a person!

They had to work really hard to think about the different body parts.

We also used clay and a variety of other tools to make people.

Next up was playing an alphabet bingo game.

The kids rolled the dice to see which letters they should cover up!

In the afternoon we were busy making shape cameras.

The story The Color Monster Goes to School, helped us talk about different emotions we might be feeling at school.

Then we had a chance to color and paint our own color monster.

Another new, friendly face popped by!

Ms. Steinbacher is the Children's Ministry Director at our church.  She stops by our classroom every other week to help us learn our memory verses.

This week she talked about where our chapel offering is going to and let the kids look at different Bibles.

"We are looking for things from A-Z do you have something you could show to me?"
Thursday we headed out on a special hike looking for things from A to Z!

Miss Mel showed us milk.

Miss Korie showed us ketchup!

Our hike continued down the hallway.
We stopped by the school office.

Mrs. Holtz our school secretary had highlighters to show us.

Mr. Debrick showed us a door knob!

We found Mrs. Helmkamp, and she had a hula hoop.
Our wonderful Nurse Connie showed us a cup.
Mr. Marolf was excited to show us his Mariners bobblehead.

We found a special help named Mrs. Lail.  She gave us LEMON stickers!

Our hike continued as we headed over to church.

At church we met Mrs. Adams our church secretary.

She showed us some apples.
Pastor Rouland wasn't in his office but he told us to RRRRun!

V was for vacuum cleaner.

We headed up to the balcony and found Mr. Thoelke.
Mr. Thoelke showed us some tape.

Right next door we found the band practicing, and they gave us a little concert.

Mrs. Thoelke showed us a tambourine.
We snuck back down through the "secret door" and headed back to our  classroom.

Later in the afternoon we had another special visitor.

Mrs. Tomlinson is our school counselor.  She was full of smiles and hugs for the kids.

Thursday was such a great day, but it was time to move on to Friday!

Friday we were busy building our muscles.

The kids got started with handwriting by doing some finger exercises.

Then they practiced using a special pencil grip to help them hold their pencil.
They did a great job with their pencil grip and writing!

The kids had a blast using the sea creatures from our Bible story.

They used the wooden blocks to create special places for the sea creatures to live.

They also did a great job of practicing sharing and working together.

The kids also enjoyed going outside for a special alphabet scavenger hunt.

Some wonderful 4th graders set up an alphabet hunt for the kids.

They had to find something that started with each letter of the alphabet

and check it off of their chart.

The kids LOVED this game and wanted to play it at home too!

In the afternoon the kids were excited to use the magnatiles to create letters.

Can you figure out what letter Violet made?

We made it through a whole week of adventures!

I wonder what we will be up to next week!
