We were all set for the snow to fall...
We were excited to play this SNOWMAN FOUR IN A ROW game!
First they had to roll the dice. Whatever number they rolled, they had to find a word in that row to read.
They circled that word and tried to get four in a row to win! I sent this game home in their Friday folders, so you can play too! :)
Next up we were using our special tablets to be "WORD WIZARDS".
They had to take away one letter and add a new letter to make it a new word.
These mixed up snowmen needed some help!
The trick was to find the rhyming pictures.
we used shaving cream and glue to make our own puffy snow.
We used it to make the first part of two special projects.
Making our own snowflakes was also on our list of snowy adventures.
It was a mystery cutting activity.
The kids didn't know what to expect when they opened it.
They were so surprised at how each snowflake was completely different!
Some friends made the body of the snowman.
While others added some details to him.
Look outside our classroom for this special friend and all of our snowflakes!
The cold rain came down, but it couldn't stop our fun.
The kids LOVED having some indoor puzzle time.
Don't worry! We weren't sleeping we were playing a fun math game!
The kids pretended to sleep.
When they "woke up" in the morning, they discovered it had snowed!
We had to work together to add the snowflakes and snowballs that fell over night.
The kids also enjoyed building sight word snow forts.
Each cup had a sight word on it the kids had to read before they could build with it.
They came up with quite the fancy designs.
We also had fun with this silly snowman game.
I gave them a snowman with a silly word on it, and they had to change one letter to make it a real word.
This was a fun and MESSY writing activity!
The kids used shaving cream
to write the beginning sound
and ending sound of some special snowman words.
Some even challenged themselves to write the whole word!
YAY!
It inspired them to add details to their snow creatures.
The kids also enjoyed using "good stuff" just like in the book Snowballs
to create their own special snow creatures.
This snowman is eating a meatball!
We also worked hard adding up buttons on these little snowmen.
Snow friends make such good friends!
When we looked outside our rainy day had magically turned into a SNOWY DAY!
The kids were SO excited to catch some snowflakes on their tongues!
Wednesday's gym class had us working hard to pick up the "snow".
One group of kids were the snowplows scooping up the snow
and putting it into a pile.
The other group was a "snowstorm" dropping snow everywhere.
The kids enjoyed staying warm and cozy in music class with Mrs. Crumrine.
She had them moving to keep the beat.
When we got back to class we did a little snow experiment to see what would melt first...
a big jar of ice or a small jar of snow.
We checked it at lunch time and the snow was already melted. The jar of ice still had quite a few pieces of ice left.
We also set a jar of snow outside. That jar still had quite a bit of snow left.
By the end of the day, everything had completely melted.
The kids had a special snowball fight!
They crumpled up a piece of paper with a word on it.
Then they yelled the word as they threw it at their friend.
Their friend had to read the word and make sure it was correct.
Then they threw their word at their friend.
Snowball, snowball, snowball FIGHT!
The kids worked hard to build these CVC snowmen.
First they had to pick out a hat with a word on it.
Then they had to find the snowman that had the matching picture.
The kids were busy reading, writing, and building in this activity.
In the afternoon, the kids were busy taking number pockets
and writing the number in the "snow" (a.k.a salt).
Ms. Steinbacher was back helping us with our memory verse.
The kids each made a special door hanger to put in their house. It was a way to remind them of what kind things they could for their family.
More snowmen adventures popped up on Thursday!
The kids played the snowman game again, but this time in a different way.
Mrs. Donner was back to help the kids create SNOW!
She used hair conditioner and baking soda to create the snow.
It was even COLD like snow!
The kids each got a chance to create a pile of snow.
Then they used the snow to make a tiny snowman!
This little snowman helped us with our adding!
The kids also enjoyed adding with a partner.
One friend closed their eyes,
while another friend set out some "ice cubes".
Then they counted to see how many cubes they had all together.
Our snowmen friends were back in the afternoon.
First the kids drew a snowman,
but they could only add two items to the snowman (arms, smile, etc.).
The other friend had to write the number sentence
that matched what got added to the snowman.
1 hat + 2 arms = 3
The kids LOVED playing this game.
You can play this game at home on a cold, snowy day!
Our pattern blocks were back in action!
This time we were using them to create snowflakes!
It was ANOTHER rainy morning.
So more puzzle adventures popped up!
These boys were SO excited to complete this challenging puzzle.
These boys discovered the picture on this puzzle changes!
Some silly snowmen arrived to help us with measuring and adding.
I set out a group of cubes, the kids added onto my cubes to measure how tall Olaf was.
The next friend wrote down the number sentence to show what we did.
We were also busy working together to make word puzzles.
The kids had to find the pieces of the word that matched their picture.
Another snowball sight word game
had the kids searching and working hard.
They had to find the pile of snow that matched their snowball.
The kids also had fun going on a snowman hunt.
The tried to find as many snowman as possible and write down the word they found.
Another rainy recess, meant free choice time in the gym.
Lots of basketball players popped up!
Some just wanted to run!
Back in the classroom I surprised the kids with a special COLD treat!
We made our own SNOW CONES, complete with sprinkles.
The kids were surprised at how delicious ice could be!
We were also busy balancing "snowballs" and "ice cubes".
We were also busy measuring different snowfriends.
The kids had to work together to measure this tall snowman!
Our Friday Reader braved the cold
and read us a hilarious book about bringing an alligator to school!
What a special way to kick off our weekend!
STAY WARM...
We have lots of GREAT adventures headed our way next week!
