Shape-Up Here Comes our Week!

Three cheers for a great week!

We used a new tool to help us hear each sound in a word.

First we used the wand to tap out each sound.

Then we "zapped" the word with our magnetic wand as we quickly said the word.

TA DA!  The kids loved this activity!

In this reading game a hibernating animal was hiding under one of their cups.

A friend hid the animal under one of their cups.

They picked up the cup and read the word that was on their cup and wrote it down.

We also used some new tweezers that help us strengthen our writing fingers.

First we made a letter with the wooden sticks.

Then we used the tweezers to pick up different shapes to bedazzle our letters.

We read Mole's Hill by our illustrator of the month.  The mole and the other animals had to learn to compromise.  We LOVED looking at the illustrations and finding all of the shapes Lois Ehlert used.

Then we got to work creating our own hill (and tunnel), using different shapes.

It was a challenge to figure out how to make it all work,

but this little guy never gave up!  He figured out how to make his arch stand!

We were also busy making cards for some kids who live in Guatemala.

A group from Zion is going to go visit them and is bringing them our cards.

The boy our class is prayer pals with is named Luis.

Some HAIR raising excitement happened on Tuesday!

The kids were trying to balance the bears with the different shapes.

How many bears would it take to balance a sphere?

They were surprised by how many it took to balance the cube!

They were also busy using pattern blocks to create pictures.

This group worked together to make a huge house, complete with a pool!

What animal do you think this could be?

Some wild turkeys showed up in gym class!

They were trying to get away from the farmers!

If they got caught, they had to go sit in the barn.

No worries!  Another turkey could get them out by saying their Bible verse:  "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good!"

We were also busy going on a bear hunt this week.

This time the bears were looking for their caves.

The kids had to find the word on the cave that matched their bear.

The kids were also busy working on making places for their bears to hibernate.

They used clay and all kinds of loose parts to create a warm place for their bears to sleep.

These little bears were hiding in their caves.

The kids had to roll the dice twice and then add up how many bears were hiding in the cave.
The kids were also busy making their very own ornaments.

We have some very unique designs this year!

One little boy even made baby Jesus in the manger!

Later in the week the kids were able to paint the ornaments.

Miss Steinbacher led our chapel this week!
We were excited to light the first candle in the Advent wreath!

This week we talked about HOPE!
The kids were all set to build some more adventures with shapes.

First we played a fun "story telling" game.
The kids had to find the friend that had the word that matched their picture.

The next step was telling a story together about their word.

The kids did great with this! It is great to hear their imagination working!

For Jesus time we were busy retelling the story of David and Goliath!
We discovered David didn't need all that armor and weapons because God was on his side.

We cheered for David for defeating Goliath, but ...

We flipped the cards over and found Jesus is our strength!

We used a new tool to help us spell with our magnetic letters!

As they said the sound, they pushed down the giant poppers.

They had to be careful because sometimes the poppers popped the letters right off!

The kids had a blast spelling the words

and watching them pop!

We were reading and writing in this activity.

I flicked them a word.
They wrote it down

And then flicked their word back.

Our hands got a little messy as started on a very special Advent art project.

Can you guess what these little handprints made?

More shape adventures finished off our week.

We discovered that there are LOTS of yummy shaped food!

First the kids shorted the shapes.

Then they created a pictures using the food shapes.

Who knew food could make such amazing masterpieces!

The kids also had a GREAT time playing this mystery game.
They reached inside the bag and told the kids if it was a flat shape or solid shape.

Then they pulled out the shape to see if they were correct!

The other kids checked to see if they got it right...

YAY! It was SHAPE' EN up to be a great week!

We were busy smashing our popcorn words.

If I called the popcorn word that they had

they smashed it!

After that they played hopscotch with the popcorn words.

Building with CVC words kept us busy!
They had to roll the dice to see how many cups they could use to build with.

Once they rolled they picked out the cups.

Then they wrote down the words that were on the cup.

Our memory verse art was a challenge.

The kids used a feather to paint.

The kids also worked hard to sort out shapes and make a graph.

Best way to end a Friday... FRIDAY READER!

Our Friday reader read a HILARIOUS book about painting!  She even gave the kids their own set of paints!

Such a wonderful way to end our week!

We can't wait to find out how God blesses us next week...
