We just couldn't HIDE all the fun we had this week!
We had lots of exciting visitors stop by this week
in between all of our other learning adventures!
We had our own little fun with boxes.
First the team received a sentence.
Then they worked together to look on the boxes
to find the word they needed.
When they were done, they lined up the boxes to make sure it made the correct sentence!
The kids also had fun with the boxes outside!
They read the sentence and had to do what it said.
"Dab red and black paint on the house."
When they were all done...
they decorated the box with popcorn words!
And of course they got to go inside the box!
We also had a visit from two police officers
and a k-9 officer.
Bonnie the dog showed us quite a few tricks!
She even played a little hide and seek with a cell phone!
This sweet dog was actually trained to be a seeing eye dog, but she was too rambunctious! :)
She has found a way to use her talents to serve others!
And she was so loving to the kids too!
The kids LOVED learning about being a police officer and of course enjoyed Bonnie the dog!
More box fun occurred as we worked with linking cubes (tiny boxes).
We have always used linking cubes for measuring or adding.
The kids were SO excited to finally get a chance to build with them!
The kids had a BLAST building and creating with boxes!
This is a box turtle! :)
This group discovered a way to make a ramp.
A box can be MANY things!
ARRRR Mateys! X-Marks the Spots!
Before we got into our "piratey fun", a very special surprise reader showed up!
Ellie's sister came to read to us to surprise her for her birthday.
She did such a good job of reading to the kids!
What a great birthday surprise! The kids wanted her to stay all day!
The kids all started off the morning making quite the creations.
They even tried to make a train of snap-os to reach across the whole table.
Then it was time to find some TREASURE.
The kids took turns walking the plank.
While walking the plank, these pirates had to pick up certain coins to make it across the plank.
These smARt pirates were taking treasure boxes and putting them together to make words.
Once they made a word, they had to find it on their "map"
and put a coin on it.
Out in the hallway the pirates were busy reading -ar words.
If they didn't get an -ar word, they had to walk the plank!
They got sprayed when they walked the plank too! :)
Not sure who had more fun with this game... Mrs. Collins or the kids!
We ended the day with a treasure hunt, looking for all of the even numbers.
They found a few other fun friends along the way!
They also were looking for all of the "x's".
The clues all led them to the giant pirate ship!
Here they found a special treasure to take home! :)
X marks the spot of special adventures!
Wednesday the ZOO arrived!
A bunch of bears came crawling into the gym as we did ZOO animal relay races!
Some alligators came chomping through our swamp.
The most challenging exercise was the crab walk!
We were stretching our necks
and dancing on our tip toes to make giraffes on this exercise.
A bunch of kangaroos hopped into our gym too!
And we couldn't forget the cheetahs
and the lions.
Back in the classroom we were balancing with a twist!
These animals had words hidden on them.
The kids had to read and write down the word and then write down how many little animals it took to balance it!
The kids also had fun being "zookeepers", looking for all the animals (with sight words on them).
Once they found the sight word animal they checked it off the list.
A vet even showed up to help with our animal adventures!
She brought a friendly turtle!
The kids were fascinated by its shell and even got to pet it!
She also brought a very interesting bird!
This friendly bird made us giggle and laugh!
It should us his "BIG BIRD"!
The kids also noticed that it was missing some feathers
because he plucks his feather when he is nervous!
A very special dog also came along to show us his tricks!
He is actually blind but you would never know it!
He can do the army crawl.
He even found the tennis ball and put it in the bucket!
The kids loved watching him play tag!
He was such a sweet dog!
The kids had a GREAT time learning about being a vet!
Back in the classroom, more animals adventures popped up! Look at these fun animals creations!
Here is a snake that wrapped around the table!
The kids also had fun designing a zoo!
They organized all the animals in the spaces and cages.
Then the ticket taker gave them tickets to the animal attractions.
They had to pay to see the animals of course!
Welcome to the zoo!
Then they used soft blocks to design a zoo.
They had to roll the dice to see how many animals got to be in the zoo!
We stacked Thursday with more fun adventures and smiles!
We started off with a wonderful chapel message from Mrs. Lohman's preschoolers.
We even got to do a little dancing!
The preschoolers did an amazing job of telling the Ascension story!
See if your child can sing one of the fun songs Mrs. Lohman taught us!
Thank you for your generosity!
This little frog showed up to help with our adding AND our balancing!
First we put a number on the balance.
Then we added some frogs to it.
Finally we put the answer on the other side.
If our answer was correct,
the frog balanced!
We also were busy balancing stuffed animals!
We discovered the tiger was the heaviest!
The seal was very heavy too!
It was another fun balancing act!
More animal adventures at the zoo.
This time money was lost, and we had to return it to the "lost and found"!
We ended our day with another wonderful visitor!
Ian's dad taught us all about airplanes and they are made!
The kids LOVED it and were super excited to get their own planes to assemble!
We had to be in top SHAPE to face Friday.
We put together a shape obstacle course.
On the cubes were hidden some words the kids had to read before moving on through the course.
The kids also weaved in and out of the cones
and had to hold onto a sphere as they ran.
They jumped for joy to get through this course!
Another special visitor showed up to chat with us.
We talked with my brother using the Smartboard!
My brother coaches basketball for Concordia in Seward, NE. His basketball players were our penpals!
Each of the kids were able to talk with him and ask him a questions about being a coach.
He even showed us how to spin a basketball on his finger!
We were also busy working with our illustrator of the month MO Willams.
More shape fun with painting with 3-D shapes!
The kids also enjoyed creating and building with shapes.
Some kids chose to make obstacle courses,
while others created other designs.
The kids' favorite part of shape adventures was probably the taste testing!
They tried some yummy cones
blueberry spheres
carrot cylinders and pretzels, and cubed cheese croutons. What food shapes do you have at your house?
Our last Friday reader... Mrs. Wood!!!!
The kids were SO excited to be surprised by Mrs Wood!
After Mrs. Wood read to the kids, they couldn't wait to give her a hug!
It was a fabulous way to end our week!
What adventures are headed our way next week???
Stay tuned!
