We started off the week celebrating our butterflies.
We finally had a sunny day to let them free!
Two of them flew right out without any coaxing.
The other ones needed a little help.
We loved watching them spread their wings and fly!
Back in the classroom we were busy using clay to make the stages of a butterfly.
We also learned that each butterfly has a special flower they like.
We did the same thing in our classroom, matching the butterfly to the same word flower.
The kids also worked hard to use popcorn word tangrams
to make symmetrical butterflies.
We also enjoyed using the butterflies to fly words around.
I called for a word. If they had it, they flew it to me.
Fly little butterfly, fly!
We have also been busy counting by 10's this week.
Sooo... we measured the table using stacks of ten.
This week we had another great chapel leader...
Mrs. Kuhlmann's first grade class led our chapel!
They reminded us that God always keeps his promises.
We were excited to celebrate June baptismal birthdays!
A train of elephants waltzed into our classroom.
After reading the sight words on the elephants, they lined them up to see how long they could make their elephant train.
We were also busy working on counting dimes.
We closed our eyes,
and hid some money inside of Elmo.
When we opened it up, we had to count by 10's to see how much money we had!
We are ready to go shopping!
Gerald from Elephant and Piggie books showed up.
We were busy feeding him eggs and peanuts.
They had to count by 10's to count the peanuts and figure out the teen number of eggs.
we made our own patchwork elephants!
Our X-ray vision glasses, were showing all kinds of crazy adventures.
We started off the day with a parachute "picnic".
The rain was falling down hard on our picnic.
We even had to hide inside of our shelter.
Finally the "sun" came out.
It was time to put the "food" on our blanket.
Then it was time to check under our blanket to make sure we didn't leave any food behind.
It was a great picnic!
Some more crazy fun back in the classroom.
We brought out a broken/mixed up word.
We wrote down what we thought the word was supposed to be.
We had to check our x-ray to see if we were right!
We LOVED surprising our nurse and interviewing her about her job.
Nurse Connie is such a blessing to our school!
We had a few cards and LOTS of hugs for her!
More fun with counting by 10's.
We were trying to get from 10 to 100 counting by 10's.
If we flipped a card we already had, it was GARBAGE! We had to put it back.
The kids really liked this game!
We were busy builders this week too!
The inspector read the sentence
and gave the team a word they had to find.
Then they set to work building a sentence.
They had to search and spin the boxes until they found the right word.
Then they lined up the words to make a sentence.
They did a great time with this box activity!
They also worked hard making words with letter boxes.
They tweezed three letters and checked to see if they could make a word with them.
A mystery box showed up in our room.
The kid hid letters inside of the box and then gave clues about the mystery letter.
Everyone else had to write down what letter they thought it was.
Finally it was time to build with boxes.
The kids were SO excited to create whatever they wanted with the boxes!
The mystery box was back to help us with money!
The kids hid one of the coins, and the friends had to guess which coin was in the box!
Surprise!
Working with cubes this week helped us create these clay cubes.
We even figured out how to make cones!
The kids could hardly contain themselves
when they found out they would get to decorate and design the boxes!
They had to read the sentences
and follow the directions.
They turned the boxes into a house!
They LOVED this activity SOOOOO much!
Don't be surprised if they ask you for a big box!
One child said it was the best day ever!
We ended our week celebrating Miss Julia's birthday.
She is a special worker that helps out in the kitchen.
She is such a happy blessing to our school, so it was great that we could celebrate her day!
What lovely adventures are headed our way next week???
