First week of school... away we go!

It was a short but busy first week of school! We met a lot of new fun friends including BOOMER the Bobcat
and a silly puppet named Jelly!

We read a lot of GREAT books that had the kids laughing and smiling!  They are such a fun bunch to read to!

We also took time to explore
and create!

The kids had a great time on the playground too!
One of the fun books we read was called the Kissing Hand  by Audrey Penn.

The kids then had a chance to create their own kissing hand.
They discovered we get pretty messy in kindergarten!

One of our favorite books that we read was Pigeon Has to Go to School. by Mo Willems. The kids kept begging me to read it again and again!  :)

We wrote pigeon some advice on why he shouldn't be scared to go to school.

They all had such unique answers!

It was a great first day of kindergarten!

We got all checked in for day number two.

More fun on the playground

brought a lot more smiles!

We read another great book called Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes by Eric Litwin.

We went for a little hike looking for Pete the Cat's shoes.

We were shoe detectives looking for his shoes.

Each shoe had a number on it.
The kids had to trace over that number or write it by themselves.

We found the shoes all over Zion's campus.

They were hiding on rocks

and the church.

We found them hiding on Pastor Rouland's window.

He wasn't there but Mrs. Adam's popped her head out to say hi!

We also found Mr. Marolf who was rocking in his school shoes AND

his CRAZY socks!

The kids did a great job of finding all of the shoes.

It was a very fun adventure!

Pete and his groovy buttons joined us in the afternoon!

The kids had so much fun playing our dice game.
They had to roll the dice
and then pick out that many buttons for Pete to wear.
We didn't always get the number we wanted

but the kids had a GREAT time playing this game.

They loved looking at all the unique buttons.

YAY for Pete the Cat and his groovy buttons!

We finished out the week with SPIRIT DAY!

We also had a fire drill. The kids did a great job of staying calm and following directions.

We had another fun story and the kids were actually able to read with me they knew it so well!
Then we created our own chicka chicka boom boom trees.

Some sorted the letters by color to get them to balance.

Others made sure to have an equal number on each side.

It was fun to see the unique ways the kids designed their trees.
Some kids even worked together to create their trees.

Chicka chicka

BOOM!

BOOM!
Will there be enough room?

The chicka chicka boom boom fun didn't stop there...

The kids also painted there own trees

AND helped paint a giant one for our classroom.

They each painted a leaf

and helped with the trunk.

To top that off, the kids had fun designing their own alphabet islands.
They also measured themselves with the alphabet linking cubes.
Whew! What a fun busy week.

YAY! We made it through the first week!

We LOVED it

and can't wait to see what will happen next...
